LA WEEKEND… 2013 JUNE-02

It was supposed to be a quiet weekend with a bit of movie catching up. Instead I just watched a lot of Tales of the Unexpected.. (yes I know.. again.. Season 5 and 6 are all done and now onto Season 7 only two more to go).

In the meantime I did force in a few more movies. These included…

  • VHS2
  • AXE GIANT
  • PREY ALONE
  • TORTURED
  • EXORCIST THE BEGINNING
  • HUMMINGBIRD

VHS2 – I really enjoyed this sequel I didn’t think it was better than the first movie but it was really good. Full review on this coming up soon. Basically it’s another dose of short “real life” found footage bizarre horror.

vhs2

AXE GIANT – Oh man I didn’t see the subtitle on this it’s connected with Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue OX! I was expecting Norse Gods!! DAMMIT. Instead it’s a bunch of lame first time offenders and a lame Capt. Hartman impersonator.

PREY ALONE – This is an amazing 15 minute movie! All CGI, tough, gritty, a good plot and action we need more movies like this.

TORTURED – Dammit I gone done it again I wanted THE TORTURED! But I brought the wrong one.. Never mind!!!! I still enjoyed the film, it’s not the most thrilling but I loved watching Cole Hauser get a rectal search.. yes I’m a sick puppy!

EXORCIST THE BEGINNING –  The original prequel to the Exorcist and later remade as Dominion because this was apparently so rubbish.. and as ever I prefer this version. Dominion was cool because you got to commune with the devil but I really liked the message in this film.

HUMMINGBIRD – A big disappointment, I think someone was trying to prove that Jason can act and be a good guy etc, it has failed every times he’s ever tried. One good dream sequence scene and Jason gets to f*ck a nun.. not a pretty hammer horror busty nun either.. what’s going on man?

Hummingbird

And the rest of the weekend was 25 min short horror, thriller, mysteries.. oh they are sooooo good!

Fortress (1992)

FORTRESS

(Thriller, Sci Fi, Action, 1992) (18) D: Stuart Gordon W :Troy Neighbors/Steven Feinberg S: Christopher Lambert, Kurtwood Smith and Jeffrey Combs. 1h 35m. Australia USA

A Futuristic prison movie, Protagonist and wife are nabbed at a future US emigration point with an illegal baby during population control.

Fortress (2)

This is probably one of best movies by Gordon, who has a Jeffrey Combs fetish, he’s directed him in Re-Animator (1985) and From Beyond (1986).

This film is based around a futuristic computer-automated underground American prison that uses robots and lasers to control the inmates, who also have “instestinators” installed that cause pain or death depending on the which line to cross..  A married couple Brennick and Mrs Brennick (Christopher Lambert and Loryn Locklin) are imprisoned because she became pregnant with a second child (a felony). The prison is run by Director Poe (Kutwood Smith) who is a genetic human who can’t handle his drink. Jeffrey Combs is a radical computer whiz and Maddox and Stiggs (Vernon Wells and Tom Towels) run around being general ass raping douchbags.

Fortress

It’s quite typical of the age but it’s that area of sci fi that I really love, I prefer the doomed mankind theme in my futuristic movies and even though the subject of human population control has been covered it never looked so good. You know a good 1980’s 1990’s sci fi movie when you hear the phrases Mainframe, Corporation and Fucking A, this movie overdoses in them!

Fortress (1)

There isn’t anything outstanding about the movie, it’s just cool!! REALLY COOL, I just get so psyched with dodgy retro sci fi..

BS :  The fight scene between Lambert and Wells is pretty cool. It starts out with a kick in the face and ends up a bloody mess!

T: The lead role was originally case for Arnie.

Q : “Rise and fucking shine sweetheart” This film also uses a lot of “fucking a”, “mainframe” and “corporation” phrases.

R: Fortress 2 (2000) The Handmaid’s Tale (1990) , Death Machine (1994)

NEWS UPDATE

I am working on a few other things, I’ve grouped together the books and podcast details under the links page and I’m slowly adding countries and years to the blog to help people search for stuff.. it’s a thankless task but it will be worth it I’m sure.

I would add in all the links now but it will keep leading to error 404 pages I’m sure so I’ll add them as I add content.

I am working on 20 for 1920’s post at the moment which I thought would be easy but sadly it’s hard to narrow the films down to only 20!! But that will hopefully add to a few blanks to the early years. In the meantime check these out
