Short Movie Roundup 12 January 2020

So it’s 2020 and we don’t have androids, cyborgs and flying taxis.. but we do have short movies..

It will be a short list though, I’m working back into the schedule so bare with me all 2 of my readers ha ha

Peek A Boo

Social media driven horror when a girl starts an innocent game with an online acquaintance, it gets out of hand when a game of who scares who first is the overall winner and she’s informed that a door has been left open. The story is lost in the effort to make this film scary, I can’t think that anyone would be this dumb to leave their doors open and to keep running around like this and the scares are all badly timed and everyone is slow to react but it’s interesting in the terms of indie horror, someone has gone to a lot of effort to play out this cat and mouse chase.

Giver Taker

A teen girl enacts a ritual to evoke the Giver Taker to get her revenge on some school bullies, as she chucks coins into an activated mirror that grants her wishes, he slowly finds out the truth but we are all warned about making wishes and what happens when they come true.

There are some wonderful dark atmospherics in this occult based horror with good acting, a ruthless story and some cracking camera actions that really enhance the twisted fairytale. This could become a bigger story for sure, like a hangman version of Candyman.

Age old story, someone starts snapping a photo only to see something spooky but they keep on snapping. What could possibly go wrong?

I do love the effects in this extremely short horror, aimed at those who are begging for a jumpy scare, it delivers that buy not much else.

It could be refined into something pretty terrifying but falls short and stumbles into every cliche.

The Secret Number

A psychiatrist becomes attached to one of his patients, a man who is high functioning when it comes to math but not much else after being traumatized he believes he’s found proof of an integer between three and four.

A real thought provoker and filmed with a lot of energy and passion, not sure if I got all of the little connections myself but it’s easier to get your head around than Primer.

Hopefully you enjoyed this weeks list, if there are any short movies that you can recommend please let me know.
