April 2016 News and Updates

Film News

underworld next generationUnderworld : Next  Generation – It seems the new Underworld film is underway Underworld Next Generation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underworld: Next Generation

undisputed 4Undisputed 4 –has finally started releasing pictures and it’s looking impressive, it’s strange but the first news I had of the completion came from a bodybuilding YouTube channel, one of the massive guys was being interviewed and mentioned that he had just finished filming for Undisputed 4, I almost wept. I will be bouncing around in the cinema queue to see this.

Nina Simone Upcoming Movie – So much controversy about the upcoming Nina Simone movie as no one, including ??? believes she’s right for the part. But while this is big news and is impacting on a lot of people who agree, the film will still go ahead, and people will still go and watch it.. and so the Hollywood machine keeps on rolling. It does raise a lot of questions about who is really the best person to act in a biopic???? how much freedom do we give as “the Audience”.. to be honest, not a lot. Only last month i was quite disappointed by the Life (2015) film not only because the film was bland but I thought it could have been massively improved if James Dean actually looked like James Dean, but would the film have been better if the lead was given to an impersonator or lookalike? I feel an article coming on… But to be honest I don’t fully understand the fuss, although my choice would be Viola Davis .

BARBARELLA-2Barbarella – It looks like there is going to be a remake of one of my all time favourite films, Barbarella!! Oh man when will they leave things alone?!? It’s not something I’m ever going to rush out to see, but I do wonder what the figures would look like on new releases if all of the remakes were not counted.

Movie Reviews /Quick Flick Reviews –  I think I have the hang of these mini reviews now, although I did miss a couple of days this month I’ve done well in posting (nearly) everyday.

November 2015 News

Sadly the whole 31 days of horror went to pot after starting out so well, I will still continue with the list throughout November but due to health problems and the Rugby World Cup I’m really sorry I kinda copped out. The list as it stands today is here and I’ve not got a huge amount to do but I’m doing it.. After all it’s Halloween every day in my house.

I’ve got nothing much lined up for November, I’ll be penning some ideas for two epic lists detailing Selected movies of 2015 and Selected movies discovered in 2015.

Hopefully some more regular updates from now on… hopefully.. I will also be changing the look and feel of the blog, oh and I shall be adding a banner, I’ll bring that baby back!

I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween, did anyone find any creepy movies!?? Please let me know.

News! September 2015

This has been a long time coming!! I’ve been trying to keep a list of updates and changes to the blog over the last month, so this is a recap of all the shizz that went down in September.

OMG I’m constantly neglecting my blog again and again but I’m trying to hard to catch up!

During August I managed to lose my movie book, yes i have a movie book, I keep it by my side while I’m watching films and think of movie lists, and pencil down reviews and article I intend to write about. I also list everything that i watch, keep ratings and plan this blog. So with the missing book I dunno what’s going on, yep I’m a little lost puppy.

Started up a new section it’s currently called VS! I was going to call it movie battles but this first post had nothing to do two movies batting it out but instead more to do with a single character so for now it shall be known and VS but it might change. If you have any ideas of any VS’s you’d like to see me add then please contact me by commenting on this post. So far the posts include a head to head battle of Pyramid Head against himself.

Links

A couple new links to add to the page.
Lingstar HQ – an awesome movie/tv blog https://lingstar4films.wordpress.com/

Also I’m finally letting the cat out of the bag about my awesome movie shirts, I can’t praise Dr Dekker enough for his amazing patience but I have a pretty awesome collection of shirts now. Rabbit In Red

Fuck it.. lets hope he doesn’t sue me… lets make it clear where you can access a pantheon of amazing shirts!

Vs

You may have noticed a new item in the header, I’m forever trying to tweak the colours to make the header much clearer but i think what I’ll have to do is change my awesome background.. lemme know how visible it is on your screens, as I’m colourblind I have a few issues anyway. So the new Versus section is here and looking to stay as it’s tres popular. it might be on hold for October… but I have a lot of work in the pipeline!

New VS Section is here

5 Selected

I’ve got a few of these in the pipeline but I couldn’t miss the opportunity to jump on the RIP bandwagon and the first “5 Selected” post of the month is dedicated to the late great Wes Craven. I’m working on a list of great Hutger Hauer movies, lemme know what you’d expect to see on the list.

Reviews

New reviews are on the site which include

  • We are Still Here (2015) – a dark ad smoldering classic horror, with intelligent use of gore and great suspense throughout, with a twist of Silent Hill.
  • X Ray / Hospital Massacre  (1981) – a lesser known hospital themed slasher that’s worth a watch especially if you like a whodunit
  • Lords of London  (2014) – strangely has nothing to do with London.. or lords!?

.

Lists

During august I managed to lose my movie book, yes i have a movie book, I keep it by my side while I’m watching films and think of movie lists, and pencil down reviews and article I intend to write about. I also list everything that i watch, keep ratings and plan this blog. So with the missing book I dunno what’s going on.

After finding my movie book I’ve managed to update the monthly lists.. I will get some more interesting lists published very soon.

Shorts

I’ve been working on a few shorts but a few of them were a little hard to get pictures for, finally managed to update the following.

  • Lot 254 – A possessed auction find or just a trick of the light?
  • Predator Dark Ages – Long awaited kick-stater film based around a medieval visit from our favourite alien

Post Discussions

POST DISCUSSION – Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) A in depth look into another weird and wonderful Cohen brothers movie.

With most of the year gone I’m going to have to start looking closely at a couple of lists, firstly my Selected films of 2015 and Selected films I watched in 2015. The difference being that the latter will include movies from other years that I’ve only just discovered. The stand out movie will be the Duke of Burgundy (2014).

Last and not least you may have noticed I’ve been playing around with backgrounds on the site a lot, trying to find something to combat the bland gray background that I’ve had since the start.

COMING IN OCTOBER

31 Days of Halloween

I’m aiming to do a 31 of my favourite horror movies, in some slight order, I’ve been penning notes and as I totally missed the opportunity last year this year will be pretty easy, I’m trying to include a range of films, black and white, classic, and obviously from the entire globe.

Yep! wish me luck!!

News – A-Z Finally Fixed!

I’ve only just had the break through brain wave on how to organised the A-Z.

It’s been bugging me for ages, but as Baz Luhrmann predicted certain thoughts blind side you on a Tuesday afternoon when you least expect it.

The A-Z. was getting pretty messy but now I’ve amended the page and the tags of the few reviews I have done and lo and behold all posts will automatically go onto the A-Z. once they have been posted! it might get some fine tuning here and there and if you’re really lucky I’ll also fancy the page up with some graphics.. but in the meantime it’s great not to have something that is up to date with minimum effort from moi… enjoy!

I’d better point out that the new system won’t be alphabetical and movies with more than one title (those listen in their native language and English) will be in both categories..

Post Discussions a new section coming soon…

As much as I am a novice in writing movie reviews I am extremely good at shooting the breeze about them. With my overactive imagination and unwillingness to sleep I can often start to over think and as I watch so many darn movies I find my vices end up going hand in hand and I start to over think movies.

Initially I set up this movie blog with 3 main reasons in mind, one was to write movie lists, they are taking longer than I thought but I have a lot on the back burner, so watch out for those. The second reason was to learn how to write a movie review.. it’s going to be a long road for that one to come about.. but I think I’m getting better with practice, and the third reason was to waffle on about movies, not to sell them or advertise them in a review but to really waffle on about them in my own bizarre way. So I’m finally getting around to Spoilerville where I can talk about endings, the entire plot, and well basically anything I want to.

I will try my best to keep the disclaimers on the Post Discussion pages today I will enable the header and away I go in the neitherworld.

Selected News

I have been making some more changes to the site. After finding the little bit of extra time to write some reviews and lists I have been finding faults all over the show. It’s not like I’m a perfectionist as I’m queen of the messy scruffs but I thought the blog would only need a little bit of tweaking as I hadn’t posted much, a mere 143 posts to go through, some of them are a little shameful but I won’t go into detail.. Do you ever look back over something you’ve written and just die inside..

Moving swiftly along..

I’m trying to keep the blog as neutral as possible; impartial might sum it up better. So instead of having lots of TOP lists a FAVOURITE lists I’m going for the Selected lists. Hopefully this will let me sum up a genre or theme showing off the best, worse forgettable and notable.

Obviously this won’t apply to everything, I have a few up coming lists that will include some of my favourites etc. But I’m just giving a head up that the word “Selected” will be slapped around here like it’s going out of fashion.

I’m not copping out; I’m just trying to open a few more doors. I’ll give the selected a go for now and see where it takes me.

New section

I’ve been playing around with the idea of adding some different sections to the site for a while now and I’ve finally found a few moments to update the blog.

I’m adding in a section called SHORTS, very unimaginative title but it will encompass my love of short and independent films. I have no idea why I didn’t think about this a long time ago!

There may be a few changes to how it’s presented, personally I’d like a page where I can update the details and highlight any films that you really need to pay attention to. But it seems that it will take more time than I can dedicate to the upkeep of the blog as opposed to  the writing and finding tasks. So.. check out the new SHORTS section of the site and let me know what you think!

Date Night

PS. if there are any films that you’d like to recommend then suggestions are greatly appreciated.

News update – Bad news for insects…

It seems that the director of the upcoming Ant-Man, Edgar Wright has left the project! How do these projects get finished when set backs like this happen?? Even though the Amazing Spiderman has only opened here recently, part 3 is on the make, and due out 2016. Not a lot of info on this yet but its gonna go on forever…

Anyway there have been bigger changes to movies in production , I guess.. Maybe the friend and producer can help out who knows?!

Why isn’t there a Fly 3 on the cards? Another generation of brundle fly would be muchly appreciated, or maybe madame butterfly without the singing!? I jest…

LA WEEKEND… 2013 JUNE-02

It was supposed to be a quiet weekend with a bit of movie catching up. Instead I just watched a lot of Tales of the Unexpected.. (yes I know.. again.. Season 5 and 6 are all done and now onto Season 7 only two more to go).

In the meantime I did force in a few more movies. These included…

  • VHS2
  • AXE GIANT
  • PREY ALONE
  • TORTURED
  • EXORCIST THE BEGINNING
  • HUMMINGBIRD

VHS2 – I really enjoyed this sequel I didn’t think it was better than the first movie but it was really good. Full review on this coming up soon. Basically it’s another dose of short “real life” found footage bizarre horror.

vhs2

AXE GIANT – Oh man I didn’t see the subtitle on this it’s connected with Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue OX! I was expecting Norse Gods!! DAMMIT. Instead it’s a bunch of lame first time offenders and a lame Capt. Hartman impersonator.

PREY ALONE – This is an amazing 15 minute movie! All CGI, tough, gritty, a good plot and action we need more movies like this.

TORTURED – Dammit I gone done it again I wanted THE TORTURED! But I brought the wrong one.. Never mind!!!! I still enjoyed the film, it’s not the most thrilling but I loved watching Cole Hauser get a rectal search.. yes I’m a sick puppy!

EXORCIST THE BEGINNING –  The original prequel to the Exorcist and later remade as Dominion because this was apparently so rubbish.. and as ever I prefer this version. Dominion was cool because you got to commune with the devil but I really liked the message in this film.

HUMMINGBIRD – A big disappointment, I think someone was trying to prove that Jason can act and be a good guy etc, it has failed every times he’s ever tried. One good dream sequence scene and Jason gets to f*ck a nun.. not a pretty hammer horror busty nun either.. what’s going on man?

Hummingbird

And the rest of the weekend was 25 min short horror, thriller, mysteries.. oh they are sooooo good!

NEWS UPDATE

I am working on a few other things, I’ve grouped together the books and podcast details under the links page and I’m slowly adding countries and years to the blog to help people search for stuff.. it’s a thankless task but it will be worth it I’m sure.

I would add in all the links now but it will keep leading to error 404 pages I’m sure so I’ll add them as I add content.

I am working on 20 for 1920’s post at the moment which I thought would be easy but sadly it’s hard to narrow the films down to only 20!! But that will hopefully add to a few blanks to the early years. In the meantime check these out
