Devil’s Domain (2016)

Director:Jared Cohn
Starring: Michael Madsen, Madi Vodane, Linda Bella. USA

This generic horror with a skeletal plot manages to detail scary elements of cyberbullying along with the moral conundrum of revenge,  but with so much being regurgitated from olde fables and other films it only has a few minor saving graces.

Lisa Pomson (Vodane) is a troubled teen who has been drawn to the drama and tribulations of social media and  is totally addicted,  as for  most of the teenagers she  clashes with her parents on a regular basis, her father Bill, ( Marsden) tend to just laugh everything off assuming that she’ll just  learn from her mistakes, while her mother tends to come down on her like a ton of bricks judging everything and making her come parents this with the Bible.  it’s a good thing they don’t know about her other bad habits,  and even seem totally unaware of her eating disorder,  but I think we’re supposed to believe that they are good parents!? Prevenge (2016)

Director: Alice lowe
Starring: Alice Lowe,Gemma Whelan, Kate Dickie,Jo Hartley, Tom Davis, Kayvan Novak. UK. 1h 28m

Alice Lowe returns after the brilliant collaboration with cult director Ben Wheatley in their darkly entertaining Sightseers (2012). She returns as an equally unusual character but this one is on a course of revenge with her unborn baby. Lowe might just have backed herself into a typecasted corner and to be truthful it’s okay, as she does this disturbing comedy thing way to well and we honestly need a lot more of her thing in the unpredictable British market where we like to be on the edge of wrongness. La Weekend August 1

District 9 (2009) – I was flabbergasted when I realised just how much this film was hated, I got my copy for free when I asked if anyone has seen it, people were giving it away.. so I was a bit dubious about watching it, but I was hooked within seconds.. it’s a mockumentary look at a group of alien (workers) who have go stuck in South Africa. The effects are brilliant, both the alien technology and “Prons” design look and “feel” impressive. Obviously the setting is key, the messages are deep an poignant. The film is elevated by the amazing and life changing performance from ?? who plays Vikers he goes through every emotion and reacts in non Hollywood’s way, giving a more interesting and diverse story. Personally I find it so attuned and turned on, I was really hoping for a sequel, but I guess I’ll have to sit quite tight. [REVIEW]10/10 Continue reading La Weekend August 1

Blue Ruin (2013)

Director: Jeremy Saulnier
Starring: Macon Blair, Tyler Byrne, Richard Peete, Vincent Savino, Alex Orr, Anish Savjani. USA.1h 30m

I thought I had seen it all when Oldboy (2003) picked at my psyche with it’s dark narrative and astonishing ending that I had to watch twice to absorb. So much pent up hate and such brutal actions in the name of honour and revenge. Blue Ruin is a testament that keeping things smart and stripped down a clever director can produce a well told revenge story that is bound the thrill. Continue reading Blue Ruin (2013)

Judy (2014)

Director: Emanuele De Santi
Writer: Emanuele De Santi
Stars: Jade Matthew, Carol Bolt, Ashleigh Whitfield. Italy. 1h 20m

The previews, trailers, reviews and DVD cover for this movie look absolutely beautiful, they all contain strong imposing grotesque images, that I thought had resulted from amazing and powerful horror film, brutally deadly and messy but unfortunately that’s not the way the cookie crumbled.

Bad things happen to bad people” that’s what the ringleader of a deranged group of Street performers called the crows always says and she decided to unleash the wrath of a gang on a woman and her dog. Mary and Judy,  I’d just like to point out that Judy is the dog, stop at some traffic lights and Mary did the worst thing ever!!! she actually ignored a street performer trying to get money out of her, just an freakish old woman in clown make up (nightmare fuel) and somehow this in self that turns into a brutal stalking and takedown mission on her and her dog.
