Django Unchained Merchandise

News has finally got to me about the Django Unchained merchandise causing a ruckus over the dolls being racist!?

There are tons of comments being thrown around like..

“We were outraged,” Ali told the Associated Press. “We feel it trivialises the horrors of slavery and what African Americans experienced.”

And Spike’s tweet

“American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves. Stolen From Africa. I Will Honor Them.”

When I was a kid it was seen as being racist for not making a black doll, now when you do it, it’s racist.

Personally I don’t see that the dolls would be brought by white supremacists to prove a point of teaching their kids how to buy and trade slaves, I see them as being brought by adults who appreciate the movie, who are Taratino fans or even if brought for children, for those children to play with and to make up their own stories with them.

I’m black and I don’t see what all the ho ha is about. Ultimately it’s getting a lot of people talking about the movie and all publicity is good publicity, I wasn’t going to rush out and see the movie, I was going to await it’s arrival in block busters, but now I might venture into town and check it out..

I have very few pieces of movie memorabilia, I have a Crow and Otis doll, I don’t think this makes me a white male musician homicidal maniac. I won’t be running over roof tops screaming “Run Rabbit!”

I kinda see it as being a positive thing, it; the film and dolls; are getting the message and reminder that slavery did exist, and still does, there is a serious lack of black action figure dolls and role models out there.

I seriously don’t see these toys will be a turning point for humanity. In 50 years time I doubt I will look back and think, dammit if it wasn’t for those damned Django toys I wouldn’t be in this darn market getting my ass sold.

I think we need to note what has happened and use that to move on. But here seems to be a group of people who want to live in the past and suffer the persecutions on a daily basis, but this will send you insane (which I think this matter is.. totally insane) of course we don’t want to forget or for this to ever happen again but we do need to grow up from the lesson not keep re taking the lesson.

    1. thank you! I’ve tried writing blogs before but never very successful but I ADORE films so much that i thought I would finally give film blogging a go. I had so many fears as that I couldn’t keep up with the film industry but my lovely friend Mark Wickson gave me some advice and I just get my opinions out there!! I’m glad you like my work so far!

  1. Do you mind if I quote a couple of your posts as long as I provide credit and sources back to your website? My blog is in the exact same niche as yours and my visitors would definitely benefit from some of the information you present here. Please let me know if this alright with you. Cheers!
